what a hoot

once upon a time, i thought owls were ugly.

we would visit gregg's mom's home,
she had owl pictures, owl paintings, and ceramic owls.
usually all in brown.
back then, i did not have the appreciation i do today for the color brown.
& i surely didn't like brown owls.

then harry potter came along
& that adorable white owl of his changed everything.
i present hedwig.

then i saw legend of the guardians on a snow day with caroline.
& darn if they weren't entirely too cute

my sweet home alabama bestie found this little sweetie perched on her front porch

cruising around online i stumbled upon this stylish owl themed baby shower
seriously.
i had no idea owls could be both lovely & stylish.
where have i been?

& an owl themed first birthday
again, even the little brown owl is precious.

& of course
anthropologie knew all along
~ owls are all the rage

the winking wisecracker jar. how cute is he? i think he needs to perch on my kitchen counter.

some more owl images via anthro

how 'bout this snazzy little umbrella stand

even mini boden jumped on the hip owl scene

& oh my word. check this out.

little miss addison must love eating her pb&j on this

& our favorite stationary contact on etsy
melissa has several cute little owl options...here's one we love

then of course blabla kids makes such sweet things
such as this.
have you ever?

spectacular images...

makes me wish i had treasured those little brown owls
at grandma miller's home after all

Dress Like… Aria – Pretty Little Liars Pt. 2

To feed my own, as well as anybody else’s Aria obsession, I decided to follow up on my “Dress Like… Aria – Pretty Little Liars” post. As I previously mentioned, Aria’s style is best described as underground boho. To repeat myself, in terms of dresses, that mostly means flowy. Although I previously covered that side of things, the pants, jeans, and shorts still need to explored. Again, we are sticking to darker colors, almost punk inspired.

And what better place (in addition to Mango that I previously recommended) to get these sort of retro inspired looks than modcloth.com – a website built on “love for vintage and retro clothing”. There you will find all the items needed to create Aria’s (or Lucy Hale’s) look, such as the one to the right that was featured on WhoWhatWear.

This look is very typical of Aria. If you recall, in a number of episodes she wears high-waisted or jean shorts with a blouse, accessorized with tights or knee high socks. I actually prefer the high-waisted shorts over jean ones because they do elongate your legs while also defining your waist that is otherwise concealed by a looser top. To complete the outfit, throw in a few eccentric accessories such as the oversized feather earrings, tie as belt, or colorful waist belts we’ve previously seen on Aria.

Here are a few of my favorite bits and pieces from modcloth.com that I think are very Aria-like. In the picture below, When The Wind Blows Top ($39.99), Orchid You Not Top ($29.99), The Pretty Pioneer Top ($49.99), Arty Administrator Top ($57.99), Timeshare Shorts ($34.99), Teenage Waistland Shorts ($47.99), Reese Boston Wash 7 1/2 Jean Short ($14.99), Let’s Do Lunch! Bootie (42.99), Sass-parilla Heel (39.99), Devoted Fallow-ing Boot (44.99), Jukebox Tights In The Pony (34.99), Arabian Tights (14.99), Tights For Your Right To Party (14.99), Don’t Mind If I Do Gloves (79.99), Sheer-yl Crow Scarf (15.99), Illuminate A Room Earrings (16.99), and Objet D’Art Necklace (24.99).
As for the accessories, to refresh everybody’s memory, here are a few snapshots from the show. In the first photo, as previously mentioned are the famous Owlita pheasant earrings.
In this second photo we have a great example of oversized bead earrings.
In this third photo, we have just one example of colorful waist belts worn over a flowy dress.
And last but not least, we have two great shots of  ‘wear a tie as your belt’.
