Hydra Gaga Covers V Magazine’s 2011 Summer Issue

V‘s 71st “The Asian Issue” is exactly why I LOVE Lady Gaga. Always pushing artistic and musical boundaries, she never seizes to impress us with not only her performances, but her intellectual creativity. In this summer’s V issue, Lady Gaga stands tall with her three heads looking onward reflecting just as much the exploration of her different identities as the exploration of different genres that give birth to her music. To the very last detail, as they are profound, her creations are ingenious, exemplifying the symbolism that makes up Gaga’s expressionism.

Just consider the butterflies that encruster her face. According to cultural mythology, butterflies symbolize resurrection, transition, change, celebration and the soul. In Greek mythology, butterflies represent the ‘psyche’ - which is literally translated to mean ‘soul’. And not only in Greek, but in other ancient cultures including Asian.

Now consider Gaga’s thoughts that she shares in her first column for V magazine:
Dear Little Monsters:
These are my confessions, my inner most thoughts and most honest beliefs about myself, me The Artist that is Gaga, a statue of which you may bow to on knees and palms as you read this. Cry a little, too, please. I can only share these facets of my most imaginative imaginativeness with you, Little Suckers — I mean, Monsters — because you are part of My Art and fly with me on the wings of the albino unicorn that are taking me on the Journey from a disco ball bra to a firework bra to something else entirely because that HACK KATY PERRY RUINED FUCKING FIREWORKS FOR MEEE.
What? No, I didn’t say that. Katy is my sister. Those are YOUR thoughts, melting into mine. Your mind IS my mind. Yes. It is. It.
So, in this story — are you weeping yet? HISS — I will give you one, just one, confession. And if you COMPARE ME TO MADONNA ONE MORE TIME for saying “confession” so much know that it will not scar my creative psyche. But now that you’ve read enough of my deep, deep, important, fabulous, sparkling thoughts, here is what I am going to tell you: My feet. Are fucking. Killing me.
There is it - Lady Gaga’s creative psyche! As it (her psyche) creates the rebirth of the new race in Born This Way, it makes complete sense for Gaga’s first editorial cover following the release of her new album to depict butterflies because just as much as they epitomize the rebirth and celebration captured in her music, they also epitomize her very own soul.
